Resumen

Arnulfo D. Trejo (1922-2002) fue un bibliotecario profesional mexicanoamericano. Su quehacer como profesor universitario en los campos de la biblioteconomía y la bibliotecología son plenamente reconocidos en los Estados Unidos, empero no en Iberoamérica. En efecto, el magisterio de este bibliotecario universitario en el campo de la biblioteconomía en general y de la biblioteconomía latina en particular, proyecta aspiraciones, ideas y prácticas con visión fundacional, innovadora y reformista. El interés de este maestro por la educación bibliotecaria en México se analiza a través de su tesis de maestría que presentó en la Universidad Estatal de Kent, trabajo académico desconocido en nuestro país. Por el contrario, el quehacer de este profesor emérito de la Universidad Arizona es valorado como insigne en el marco de la enseñanza de la biblioteconomía, especialmente en el trabajo docente de la biblioteconomía dedicado a formar bibliotecarios para servir a diferentes minorías sociales, tales como personas de origen hispano, latino y chicano en el contexto estadounidense. Asimismo, se menciona el libro que en su honor se publicó con motivo de su jubilación como docente en la Universidad de Arizona. Se analiza también el influjo que ha tenido la Fundación Trejo Foster para la Educación Bibliotecaria Hispana, una organización que él fundó con el objetivo de patrocinar programas educativos con la intención de atender necesidades las comunidades de ascendencia hispana.
