Informational practices in the socio-educational system of the state of Bahia

Abstract

This study intends to carry out an investigation into the initiatives and practices of access to information in socio-educational care units in Bahia, administered by the Fundação da Criança e do Adolescente, a state agency responsible for the custody of adolescents and young people in compliance with a court sentence for committing acts infractions. Its main objective is to map the information available to inmates while they are sentenced and to list the criteria for access and use of technological and reading resources by educators in the units. To carry out this study, descriptive research of a qualitative and quantitative nature is being carried out, taking as a sample two service units located in the city of Salvador; one aimed at serving adolescents and young females, and the other for male inmates. Research has highlighted the need for greater government investment in public policies to encourage reading in socio-educational units, as well as better equipment for teaching and learning spaces that use information technology resources in the context of socio-education. The policy for assisting adolescents deprived of liberty provides that, during the period of custody, inmates can develop skills and abilities that allow them to return to society in a safe way and able to continue their life projects. In this context, reading, pedagogical practices and information technologies appear as structural bases for the resocialization and reinsertion of these individuals into society.
