Open access in scientific communication: study of the scientific production of research teacher at PPGCI/UFBA

Abstract

The present study aims to understand the open access scientific production of researchers-teachers from the Postgraduate Program in Information Science, at the Federal University of Bahia. The ways of creating, organizing, disseminating, using and preserving information and knowledge, especially in the context of research and science, have been impacted by technologies and, above all, by the open access movement, thus leading to transformations in the scientific communication system. As for the objectives, this is a descriptive research, based on a documentary survey, with a qualitative-quantitative approach. It aims to map the open access scientific production of the researcher-teachers of the aforementioned Program, identifying the type of publication adopted. It seeks to identify the perception of these researchers about open access, through the application of a questionnaire. The population is made up of 24 researchers, whose production recorded in the Lattes Curriculum resulted in the survey of 1973 types of documents. The result demonstrated that there is a predominance of open access publications, concluding that this trend places these researchers in the context of global open access, as well as the area of ​​Information Science, factors that generate individual and collective benefits for everyone who seeks to make the scientific knowledge widely available and freely accessible.
