Abstract

Based on the analysis of the exhibition “Aspera Melodia: Carlos Asp, 70 years old”, this article intend to present and discuss the results obtained through a reception survey carried out with the external audience of the exhibition. The investigation privileged an analysis focused on the exhibition's expographic aspects, guided by a specialized theoretical framework, considering issues related to the autonomy, enjoyment and reception of audiences, as well as their level of education and frequency. In this context, the objective was to reflect, question and review possible ways to enhance the dialogue between contemporary art and different individuals, so that the museum effectively fulfills its social role in the face of the multiplicity of audiences. The data showed that the secondary elements of information have the potential to assist in receiving the proposed message, emerging as relevant means by which non-specialized visitors approach the exhibition proposal. Thus, the participants pointed out that introductory texts and subtitles, as well as the presence of complementary content, such as information about the artist and the context of his production, help the experience and dialogue with the theme. It was noted that as the frequency in artistic and cultural institutions increases, the proximity to the codes and meanings of art becomes proportional. It was also possible to verify that for the public considered as a specialist and for those considered non-specialist, the communication gaps can disadvantage the understanding of the exhibition.
